Cut your risks of breast cancer

By David Morris

The latest tips to keep you healthy and happy

The prevalence of breast cancer in the USA has been highlight recently, by new figures from the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which should that one woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every 3 minutes. However when the causes of the cancer were looked at, just 5-10% of cases had an heredity basis.

This is actually very good news, because it means that more than 90% of breast cancers are caused by something we do, and that means there's a great hope you can reduce the risk.

Current research shows new areas of prevention.

It could be down to natural vitamin D and sunshine

The results from a research study by Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Canada, indicates that food sources of vitamin D and exposure to sunlight could be two of the most effective ways in reducing the risk of breast cancer.

It's a question of combing the proper foods with getting out under those gold rays of sunlight, the two together will allow your body to produce all the vitamin D it requires. Experts put this at 1,000 IU per day.

The first step is that you'll need some sun. Take the time twice a week to go out into the sunshine, were you can really expose your skin, your face, arms and even back to the sun for about 10 or 15 minutes. This will let your skin absorb the sunlight and allow it to start creating vitamin D.

The second thing you can do is to ensure your diet includes foods that are rich in vitamin D, for example mushrooms, eggs, salmon, mackerel and bee pollen. Interestingly though, while the research shows that food sources of vitamin D are effective, it's still not certain if vitamin D supplements are as effective.

And a few more things you can do that could help cut the risks of breast cancer as well as improve your overall health:

Exercise. There's no need to break out into a sweat here, a simple 30 minute walk each day is good enough. In fact it's been shown to very beneficial for your health and wellbeing, including: reducing blood pressure, reducing levels of depression and anxiety, retarding the progression of dementia and diabetes, cutting the risk of death, and also an effective was of losing weight.

Time to watch your waistline. If you're feeling that belly bulge, consider slimming down and losing a few pounds. Try adding a few super foods to your diet, like barely grass, wheatgrass and spirulina. These will strengthen your digestion and aid the elimination of toxins from the body.

Taking folic acid or vitamin B9. Your body is constantly creating new, healthy cells, and in order to do this, it needs folic acid. Folica acid can be found naturally in foods including spirulina, bee pollen and barley grass.

By Allison Blakley

It's just that there are so many types and stages and complications that can arise from this disease. It's an all-around topic. Find help facing the fear by reading these cancer tips.

When someone you love is battling cancer, it is important for you to learn as much as you can about his or her diagnosis. The better informed you are the better you will be able to help them in a way that is really supportive and encouraging. It will help you to not have to ask what they need but rather do the things they need without being asked.

The lack of fruits and vegetables in our diet increases our risk of forming certain cancers, such as cancers of the stomach, lung, and colon. With the wonderful variety of fruits and vegetables available and the delicious ways to prepare them, more people should try making these natural cancer-fighters a bigger part of their daily diet.

Make time to go outside and enjoy the fresh air. Your cancer treatments may make it impossible for you to exercise, but spending time outside will help you feel refreshed and rejuvenated. If you can walk or participate in a light jog do that as well. Exercise is important to the healing process.

Do not be afraid to get your mammogram. It should never be a painful experience for anyone. Schedule your appointment for the week following your monthly cycle. Your breast tissue is less sensitive at that time. Take some ibuprofen before the appointment to lessen any potential discomfort you may have.

If you live alone, try to stock up on meals when you feel well. Cook up a large batch of chicken or soup and freeze it. Since there will probably be days when your cancer treatment leaves you feeling a little weak, it will be very helpful to be able to quickly heat up a meal and relax.

Before you begin chemotherapy treatment, it may be wise to shave your head. As many people know, chemotherapy makes your hair fall out. What people do not know is that it does not all come out at once; it comes out in bunches. Shaving your head will prevent you from having hair in some spots but not others.

If your doctor has said the word "cancer" to you, it is not time to freak out. There are a great many types of cancer, some of them are much stronger than others. It is important to listen to everything the doctor has to say to see exactly how grave your situation is.

Do not fight your doctor when he offers you some good pain killers. There is no reason for you to have to suffer with the many wonderful drugs that are on the market these days that will make you more comfortable. If your doctor gives you one and you are not feeling better, ask for something different.

Don't feel obliged to tell everyone you know about your diagnosis. Many people feel that a struggle with cancer is very personal, and it's okay to keep the news to yourself. You should share this difficult time with close friends and family members, but not every co-worker or grocery store clerk needs to know about your medical details. Assure them that you know their curiosity simply means they care about you but that you'd rather not talk about it.

It is important to read the warning labels for many products. Many people do not realize that products they use every day contain carcinogens. When buying products, pay careful attention to the ingredients of the product, and even look for warning labels that may say that the product you intend to purchase may cause cancer.

If you have grown up in the sweet, sunny south--especially in the days before sunscreen,--you will need to be checked for basal cell carcinoma regularly. This form of cancer is directly related to exposure to the sun. If you were badly sunburned as a child, you are at high risk for this cancer.

As a preventative measure, some women who are genetically predisposed to breast cancer, may have a mastectomy. Chemotherapy is often able to kill cancerous cells, but it also affects normal cells leading to anemia, hair loss and other side effects. Hormone therapy can sometimes cause certain types of tumors to regress. New treatments are being researched and developed on a continuous basis, click here for even more information.

What You Must Know About Skin Cancer Detection

By Esther Sangiovanni

The sun?s ultraviolet radiation is an important factor in its appearance, for all types of skin cancer. Today I would like to share all of its symptoms. You must know that it's critical to check that in an earlier time as soon as you detect skin cancer or suspicious spots.

In order to understand which are the most common symptoms of skin cancer, I will separate in two categories:

1) No-melanoma cancer: This one is not dangerous or painful. You can detect it with a small lump (or mole) that is shiny, waxy, pale in color and texture. It's commonly found as a red and firm lump, a sore or spot that bleeds or become crusty and non healing wounds. Also, this can be scaly patches of skin that are red or brown. Any growth of these things can be suspicious, so don't hesitate to consult to a dermatologist.

2) Melanoma cancer: If you detect any change in size, shape, color and / or texture of a mole in your skin, it could be a possible symptom of melanoma. It is usually detected as a portion of the surface of black or blue-black. Yet it may also show as a new spot where there was not, usually black with abnormal appearance.

Whichever skin cancer you may have, it is essential to do?a periodic monitoring in order to proceed to its diagnosis and treatment at an early stage of development. Otherwise, there is a risk that the cancer cells can grow under the skin surface and spread. But you can ask "how can I do that?". There are two ways to do so.

1) Skin examination: In this case, a doctor or nurse checks the skin for the presence of bumps or spots that look abnormal in color, size, shape or texture.

2) Biopsy: In this case, the doctor has found an abnormal-looking growth in your skin, and it needs to be totally or partially removed. After that, a pathologist check it under a microscope in order to find possible presence of cancer cells. There are three main types of skin biopsies:

-Shave biopsy: A sterile razor blade to ?shave? the abnormal-looking growth is used.

-Punch biopsy: It is necessary to use a special instrument called a punch to remove a circle of tissue from the abnormal-looking growth.

-Excisional biopsy: A scalpel is used, in order to remove the entire growth

Get to know your skin. According to recent information, a skin test may not take more than 10 minutes. This can be excellent for you to live longer, share with your family and loved ones, and specially because you deserve to love yourself.

I really hope you found this information useful. But don't keep yourself, share it to everyone you know. Whoever person can be detected with skin cancer, so it important to spread the voice to know how to avoid it.

All the success!.
